VOL. 1093

For those of you who still don't know we recently started a weekly bike ride that takes place every Monday at 8 PM. Each week there is a different route and each time there seems to be more and more participants.
So, last night was our 5th Monday bike ride and it was definitely the largest turnout we've had so far, about 50 people showed up. I guess that's what happens when you tell people that there is going to be pizza and beer involved. We were all really excited about checking out the new Pizza Port that just opened in OB.
See how happy everyone looks in this photo, it didn't last for very long.... Everything went downhill after we took this picture, well almost everything.
The ride started out pretty regular, we left the store around 8:30 and cruised down by Seaport Village. As we were riding along we ended up losing about 4 people, we sat around for about 15 minutes waiting for the people in the back because the second half of the ride was a little more confusing than the first half and we wanted to make sure they wouldn't get lost, but they never showed up. Guess they decided early that they didn't want to finish the journey.
Most of the group was getting restless waiting so the front of the pack decided it was time to go, the only problem was that the person who knew the route wasn't in the front. The group started off down the right way until someone decided that they had a better way. Everyone turned around and followed in another direction. The problem was that the direction we were about to follow included massive hills. As we rode up hill the complaints got louder and people started dropping out. At the top of the hill there was some serious consideration of just going back to the store. So more people dropped out.
Over the next 30 minutes or so someones chain broke, 2 people fell off of their bikes twice, and someone else blew out a tire. By the time we made it to Pizza Port, approximately 9:50, there were only about 30 people left. We were exhausted but more than excited to finally be able to enjoy some tasty pizza and beer. There was just one small problem... THEY STOP SERVING PIZZA AT 10 O'CLOCK, a fact that the awesome employees fail to mention when you call to ask how late they are open until. I would understand not making food for people that show up 10 minutes before you close but they were still open for another hour and 10 minutes. Apparently, they enjoy being lazy more than making money. We attempted reasoning with the manager and explained how many people were there and that we had called ahead of time and were told they were open until 11 and all he would do is blame his employee for being new. Sweet response considering the place just opened and everyone that works there should be new. It's a shame they weren't willing to help us out, we were looking forward to going there often.
One quick call over to Newport Pizza and all of our problems were solved. We told them how many people were coming and they agreed to stay open late for us. The staff there was amazingly friendly, the beer selection was great, and the New York style pizza was delicious. If you were one of the 20 or so people that actually made it to our final destination, you were able to reap the rewards of the crazy ride. All in all it ended up being a really enjoyable trip. The ride back was much more mellow, the way it should have been going out there.
Thank you to everyone who attempted this ride and a special thank you to Newport Pizza for being so good to us.
Hopefully everyone that came this Monday will be brave enough to come back out next Monday. We will have a new food destination next time and promise not to take the group on hills.
Pizza Port OB, you can suck it. We'll never be riding there again, we promise.
