My name is Jon, and if you've visited the shop on weekends you've probably seen Jay making fun of me. As a frequent checker of the 5&A Dime blog I finally asked Jay if I could contribute.
I found out about the shop around 2008/09 when I worked with a photography company called The Social Trust. We were in town shooting a lookbook for The Lovewright Co. and we caught up with Jay, and some regulars hanging outside on 8th & G. I just remember I really enjoyed visiting the spot every time I was in San Diego since then. It wasn't just the products, it was the whole feeling of supporting a mom and pop shop, and the sense of supporting a community. During one trip to the shop, Jay told me about the first Motor Union. I entered my MINI and began to talk to Jay about designs. So through making a few designs for the store I became friends with the whole 5&A Dime crew. Some how that snowballed into either the crew coming up for Disneyland trips around my area, or me visiting SD and staying for the weekend.
I'm not a man of many words. So expect a lot more photos than commentary in my blogging.
