SOAP BOX

Welcome to the 5&A Dime soap box.

Brian Flynn: Memories of Tomorrow

Jonathan Ikemura

After closing up shop, we stopped by Subtext to check out Brian Flynn's art show. Memories of Tomorrow will be running between September 12th through October 11th. Brian lives in San Francisco, but made it down to SD for the opening night of his show. Besides checking out his rad works of art at the show, you can also check out his studio at hybrid-design.com and his online retail store at super7store.com.

"Doburocker" made from fiberglass. I should have stood in frame to show off the scale of this thing. Check out the wall socket for a size reference.

Krazy Kidz: "Dr. Woodbe" is made with a zebrawood body, cast metal arms and legs, and features a spun resin head. This was probably one of my favorite pieces from the show. Just look at that curiously evil little grin.

Until next time Subtext.

Last time I was at Subtext they sold vinyl toys. Jay told me that they haven't sold toys in about 7 years or so. Hopefully we'll be making trips more often to check out the gallery space. So for future references, check out subtextgallery.com for all the latest art shows going on. And for right now, get down to Subtext to check out Brian Flynn's awesome works!
